Baltimore - 1870
The 1870 Baltimore Covered Bridge is a fitting monument to Senator Ralf Flanders, who preserved both the bridge and the Eureka School House. The roof and moldings over the portals are evidence of tender loving care.
Originally the bridge crossed Great Brook in North Springfield. It was moved to its present location in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont in 1969. It is owned by the State of Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.
Baltimore Bridge is a 47-foot length, town lattice bridge built in 1870 by Granville Leland and Dennis Allen. The bridge is open to pedestrian traffic only.
There are just over 100 authentic covered bridges in the U.S. state of Vermont, giving the state the highest number of covered bridges per square mile in the United States. A covered bridge is considered authentic not due to its age but by its construction.
Of the over 500 covered bridges built in Vermont, as of 2019, only 104 remain.
