The 1853 Knapp’s Covered Bridge spanning Brown's Creek in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. This 95 ft. long Burr Truss bridge is the highest Covered Bridge in the state. Also known as the Luther Mills Bridge and Brown's Creek Covered Bridge, this bridge sits 30 feet above Brown's Creek and is the one and only bridge in Bradford County.
Knapp's Bridge is unique for Pennsylvania Covered Bridges as it is unpainted and the natural dark grey wood is a stark contrast to the barn red color common with most bridges in the state. The vertical siding only extends halfway up the sides of the bridge leaving the Burr arches exposed to its lovely surroundings. Far from any paved road, the bridge noticeably sits in a very tranquil setting.
Knapp's Bridge, named for a local family, underwent a major restoration in 2000. Previously, the bridge was closed to traffic for quite some time, but after the restoration, it was again opened for traffic. The builder of Knapp's Bridge is unknown.
Knapp’s Covered Bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
