Delleville - 1889
The Delleville Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge located at Delleville in Wheatfield Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. Delleville Bridge is a 174-foot-long, three-span, Burr truss bridge over Sherman Creek, constructed in 1889, and was painted in the traditional barn red color accented with white. The roof was painted black. The bridge was built by Andrew Clouser.
Delleville was rebuilt in October of 1973 after Hurricane Agnes flooded in June of 1972. In November 2014, the bridge was burned down by arsonists. Residents who live in the area were devastated by the news and were inconvenienced by its loss. In 2017, work removing the burned and charred remains of the old Dellville Covered Bridge began, and in 2018, the work restoring the bridge began in earnest. By early 2019, most of the structure has been completely restored back to its original condition.
Of the 1,500 covered bridges that once stood in the state of Pennsylvania, as of 2019, approximately 200 remain.
