Clay - 1890
The Clay's Covered Bridge, also called Wahneta Covered Bridge, originally crossed Little Buffalo Creek about one mile west of its present location on the farm of John B. Clay in Perry County. Built in 1890 by George Harting, it sat next to the Wahneta water tank for the Newport and Sherman's Valley Railroad.
Clay's Bridge was refurbished three times; once in 1959, again when it was moved to its present location in 1971 due to the construction of Homan Lake, and finally after winter storm damage in 1993 caused it to collapse, but it was quickly rebuilt.
Open to pedestrian traffic only, Clay's covered bridge is located in Perry County, which is home to 15 covered bridges. The bridge has a Burr arch-truss, and is 81 feet long.
Of the 1,500 covered bridges that once stood in the state of Pennsylvania, as of 2019, approximately 200 remain.
