Benetka Road - 1900
The Benetka Road Covered Bridge spanning the Ashtabula River in Ashtabula County, Ohio. This ca 1900 bridge is one of currently 17 drivable bridges in the county. A single-span Town truss design had 9-inch, 38-inch thick laminated arches added during its renovation in 1985.
The bridge is located in Sheffield and was first known as East Matherson, named after Samuel Mather. John Greggs, the first Justice of the Peace, gave it the name of Sheffield. In the mid-19th century a water-powered saw, grist, and flour mill were located by this site.
Dimensions: Length of largest span: 98.1 ft. Deck width: 13.1 ft. Vertical clearance above deck: 11 ft. Total length: 138 ft.
Eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
