Livingston Manor - 1860
The Livingston Manor Covered Bridge, originally known as Mott Flats Bridge and more recently called the Vantran Bridge was built by John Davidson in 1860.
The bridge was restored to its original beauty in 1984 by the Division of Public Works. It is a single-span town lattice truss with a laminated arch. The laminated arches were added to increase the capacity of the structure. The bridge spans the famous Willowemoc Creek, where visitors are welcome to fish. Picnic areas, group picnic pavilion (fee), and portable toilet facilities are available.
The park is owned and operated by Sullivan County and is located in the Town of Rockland, within a few short miles from downtown Livingston Manor.
The length of the largest span is 94.8 ft,., with a total length of 121.7 ft., and a deck width of 10.8 ft. It has a vertical clearance above deck of 8.7 ft.
Covered bridges have long been in existence in New York State. At one time, over 300 spanned our rivers and streams. Due to flooding, storms, and other acts of nature, that number has dwindled to 24. Some were lost to vandalism and arson, which to covered bridge enthusiasts, is the most sinister of all.
