Saco River - 1890
Saco River Covered Bridge is located on East Side Rd and crosses the Saco River in the town of Conway in Carroll County, New Hampshire. The current two-span-covered Paddleford through truss Saco River Bridge was built in 1890 by Charles and Frank Broughton and was restored from 1987 to 1989.
The original Saco River Covered Bridge was crashed into by another covered bridge in 1869 during a flood that carried the Swift River Covered Bridge down the river. The Saco River Covered Bridge was knocked off its abutments and both bridges were carried 2 miles downstream. The remains of the original Saco River Covered Bridge and the Swift River Covered Bridge were used to build the still-standing Swift River Covered Bridge.
Saco River Covered Bridge is also known as the Conway Covered Bridge.
