Gilpin's Falls - 1860
The 1860 Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge, close to the town of North East in Bay View, Cecil County, Maryland, is a Burr arch through truss wooden covered bridge. Constructed by local Cecil County bridgewright Joseph George Johnson in 1860-61 across North East Creek. The bridge was erected near Samuel Gilpin's mills and dam and crosses the millpond formed by it with a span of 100 feet and a total length of 119 feet. It is 13.5 feet wide and is closed to all motorized vehicles.
The original floor beams were replaced sometime in the 1920s, the bridge's final decade of service, with mixed species of ash and oak. This was an attempt to increase load capacity. The bridge was bypassed in the following decade. In 1958 its roof collapsed and in 1959 Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge was restored by the State Roads Commission and the Historical Society of Cecil County, and was rehabilitated in 2010.
Length of largest span: 100 ft.
Total length: 119 ft.

Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
