Ramp Creek - Indiana
The Ramp Creek Covered Bridge is the oldest standing covered bridge in Indiana, as well as the only standing with two lanes (double-barrel). It was disassembled and relocated to its current site around 1932.
The Ramp Creek covered bridge was built in 1838 by Henry Wolf just south of Fincastle over the Ramp Creek in Putnam County. The single-span Burr Arch Truss structure is 96 feet long with an additional 7-foot overhang at each end. It is the only 2-lane covered bridge in Indiana with both lanes being 11 feet wide and 12 feet high.
In 1932, the bridge would have been dismantled due to road construction, but Richard Leiber spearheaded a movement to keep the bridge intact and move it to the new State Park in Brown County. The Ramp Creek covered bridge now crosses Salt Creek at the north entrance of Brown County State Park and is the oldest covered bridge still standing in Indiana.
Dimensions: Length of largest span: 88.9 ft.; total length: 109.9 ft.; deck width: 23.9 ft.; vertical clearance above deck: 9 ft.
