New Brownsville - 1840
The Brownsville Covered Bridge is a historic long truss-covered bridge located in Brownsville, Union County, Indiana. It was built between 1837 and 1840, and was a single-span covered timber bridge using a covered Long Through Truss construction, by Adam Mason, with a span of 102 feet and is the only Long Truss bridge in Indiana. In total, the bridge measured 182 feet long and 21 feet 6 inches wide. The bridge spanned the East Fork of the Whitewater River.
The bridge was dismantled in 1985 for relocation to Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis but was instead used to replace the Clifty Bridge in Mill Race Park in Columbus, Batholomew County, Indianapolis.
New Brownsville Covered Bridge, is now situated over a branch of Driftwood River in Mill Race Park, Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana. The bridge was shortened to 85 feet in 1986 and rehabilitated in 1991.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and delisted in 1974.
